Ysleta High School to receive physical fitness grant from Dallas Cowboys
Ysleta High School is going to receive $8,000 for physical fitness equipment, programs, and other initiatives courtesy of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Lottery.
The Cowboys partnered with the Texas Lottery to create the “Funds for Fitness” grant, which provides 15 schools with money to pay for fitness upgrades and programs.
Ysleta’s football coach, Joe Martinez, announced the school had been named a grant recipient via Twitter on Thursday.
Teachers and administrators from Texas schools were allowed to submit grant requests this past year between Feb. 1 and March 31.
Grant winners received anywhere from $500 to $10,000 depending on the financial requirements of each school’s proposed fitness upgrades/programs.
Ysleta H.S., with its $8,000 grant, received the second-largest of the 15 grants.
The “Funds for Fitness” program was created “to encourage educators to create new or enhance existing youth health and wellness projects in their schools,” according to the program’s web site.
