Duranguito attorneys request restraining order from judge
Attorneys for four Duranguito residents filed the temporary restraining order Tuesday.
The city answered with 400 pages of exhibits defending their case.
Friday evening Judge Amy Clark Meachum listened to both parties through a conference call for 15 minutes from her courtroom in Austin.
Attorneys representing Duranguito residents are filing a temporary restraining order and permanent junction.
The restraining order if granted would do a few things. It would stop the city from spending downtown arena bond money, hold contracts already made towards building the arena, prevent the city from entering new contracts and stop property owners from demolishing buildings.
But the city argues some residents being represented by the legal aid — are either in the process of moving from the Duranguito area, or are located in a building that will not be demolished before the trial. As for one of the residents represented, the city says it has no plans to acquire that property.
Through the paperwork we are also learning the old Chinese laundromat many historians wanted to save will not be demolished.
The judge was expected to take advisement from legal staff and give her decision Friday afternoon but that did not happen.
It’s possible Meachum could make a final decision Monday.
