Suspect in custody after hostage situation at Alamogordo pistachio ranch
UPDATE: The hostage situation at an Alamogordo pistachio farm is now over, according to New Mexico State Police.
A spokesman for NMSP said the suspect was involved in a crash when he fled into the pistachio farm. Police said he barricaded himself where he took 13 people hostage, including one 3-year-old child. NMSP have not confirmed if the suspect was armed. They said he was taken to the hospital because of injuries he sustained during the crash.
Police say none of the hostages were injured.
The father of the suspect told ABC-7 the suspect was 21-year-old Caleb Scroggins. NMSP has not confirmed his identity.
ORIGINAL STORY: New Mexico State Police SWAT team and hostage negotiators are assisting Otero County Sheriff Deputies with a hostage situation at the McGinn’s Pistachio Tree Ranch in Alamogordo.
State police spokesperson Chris Christiansen tells ABC-7 there is at least one man inside the location who has several hostages and has barricaded himself inside.
The ranch is located on Highway 70 as US 54 in Alamogordo New Mexico.
