Former Americas star baseball player signs with San Francisco Giants

Former Americas shortstop Orlando Garcia has signed with the San Francisco Giants, according to CSN.

Garcia will reportedly receive a $125,000 signing bonus as part of his deal with the team.

The Giants selected Garcia in the 15th round of last week’s MLB Draft.

The news confirms speculation that Garcia would skip his senior season with Texas Tech and begin his professional career.

Garcia was named a member of the All-Big 12 First Team in his final campaign with the Red Raiders.

He helped lead Texas Tech to the fifth overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, but his team was eliminated in the regional round by Sam Houston State.

Garcia was recently named one of five finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given to the nation’s top shortstop.

The Giants have now signed 27 of their 40 picks from the draft as of Wednesday afternoon.
