City approves funding for downtown aesthetics
The City of El Paso is helping with efforts to improve the look of Downtown.
Earlier this month, council approved additional funding for a program that will improve the signs and lighting of downtown buildings.
Council approved having the Downtown Management District administer the funding to property owners who qualify.
The DMD is no stranger to this type of project, it is behind the Facade Improvement Program- that also allocates grant money to help building owners make over the front of their properties.
This Downtown Iconic Signage and Lighting Grant Program provides two grant dollars for every one private investment dollar for iconic and transformative signage and lighting projects.
The program hopes to spur investment that will cultivate the downtown identity.
The maximum grant available is $25,000.
“These grants have led to major transformations, but then also minor improvements and both of them are benefiting downtown,” said Joe Gudenrath, executive director of the Downtown Management District.
Guendrath said funding is currently available for property owners who qualify.
