Motorcycle Coalition: Los Bandidos member dies after bar shooting
UPDATE: One of the Los Bandidos Motorcycle Club members shot at an east El Paso bar last Sunday night during a gang-related shooting has died, the El Paso Motorcycle Coalition said.
A Facebook post Thursday evening said Juan Martinez, 61, died from his injuries.
The shooting sent three people to the hospital, including one in critical condition.
Police identified the victims as 61-year old Juan Martinez, now deceased, 49-year-old Ballardo Salcido, 36-year-old Juan Miguel Vega-Rivera and 47-year-old David Villalobos.
The shooting happened at the Mulligan’s Chopped Hog bar on George Dieter Dr. at around 9:20 p.m. Sunday
Police said one of the groups was told to leave the bar, which then prompted an argument and a fight between the two gangs.
Javier Gonzalez, 34, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
El Paso Police said Tuesday a “Summarized Suspension of Licensee Premise” has been imposed on Mulligan’s Chopped Hog Bar.
The suspension went into effect July 31, 2017 and will be in effect for seven days, police said.
Police further stated the suspension is the “direct consequence of the shooting that occurred Sunday night” and that the action was initiated by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
The shooting is suspected to be gang related and the shooter was believed to be targeting victims, Detective Michael Baranyay said.
Tuesday members of Los Bandidos held a news conference outside the bar where the shootings took place.
They say they wanted to clear the air about who was responsible for the shooting adding the group is a club and not a gang.
The club’s national president said he made the trip from houston to reassure the public.
However, the department of public service just released its 2017 texas gang threat assessment and the Bandidos are on the list.
Each gang was ranked on it’s relationship with mexican drug cartels, level of violence, strength and other factors. The Bandidos are ranked tier two, in a three tier chart.
The group is listed just above Barrio Azteca and the Surenos.
Santa Fe police are increasing patrols and 24-hours surveillance amid tensions between two motorcycle clubs. This happened around the area of a drive-by shooting by a member of the Vagos motorcycle club.
The home of a Bandidos motorcycle club member also is under 24-hour surveillance after his home was targeted in the shooting.
Police said the shooting came amid an ongoing turf battle. Investigators point to a war in New Mexico between the California-based Vagos motorcycle club and the Texas-founded Tandidos.
The El Paso police say they will have an update on Martinez’s death tomorrow.
Abc-7 will bring that to you both on line and on air.
