UberEATS launches food delivery service in El Paso
The popular ride share app Uber launched a food delivery app, UberEATS, Thursday.
The app allows you to order your favorite food from dozens of restaurants like Avila’s, The Pizza Joint and Pho Tres Bien.
All you have to do is enter your address on the app or UberEATS.com to see a list of the nearest participating restaurants, including their business hours and estimated delivery time.
UberEATS spokeswoman Lauren Martin said the app designed for convenience, but can also help us explore.
“It’s also a great way to try new restaurants that maybe you didn’t know about,” said Martin. “Maybe it’s a neighborhood gem in a part of town you don’t normally go to.”
Once you browse and decide on a restaurant, you’ll be able to see the full menu, and customize your order.
There is a flat $5.99 booking fee, and you can order from all over Sun City.
“That includeS the UT El Paso campus,” said Martin. “We’re also delivering up to Fort Bliss.”
State Rep. Joe Moody brought the new app to El Paso, he said he hopes it paves the way for more businesses.
“When you let companies like Uber and UberEATS create and innovate, that’s what brings great things to our community,” said Moody.
Aside from certain restaurants offering delivery, there are other apps that offer food delivery in El Paso.
Grubhub launched in March 2014 and does business with 90 different restaurants.
Eddie Molina said he didn’t know about the app, but is excited to try out UberEATS.
“I usually go out with my girlfriend on Sundays,” said Molina. “I know if we had delivery service, something like this that’s really accessible, I could see us being a little more lazy. That sounds kind of awesome.”
Gabby Carrillo told ABC-7 said she fears food delivery apps are a convenience that will stop some peoople from leaving their homes.
“There’s just so much to do, why be locked in your apartment or my house,” said Carillo. “I would rather go out and experience people. It’s fun to go out and experience things.”
