Border Patrol agent involved in deadly shooting in Socorro
An official with U.S Border Patrol tells ABC-7 an El Paso Sector Border Patrol agent was involved in a deadly shooting in Socorro.
Socorro Police say they responded to a call of an aggravated assault in progress around 4:30 A.M. Sunday on the 300 block of Melendez Road. When police arrived, they found the male victim dead with gunshot wounds.
“It’s a really peaceful neighborhood,” said Lourdes Salinas, who has lived there for 23 years. “My first instinct was to call my mom to see how she was and how my son was. I got scared
Spokesman Joe Romero with U.S Border Patrol confirmed with ABC-7 that the agent was involved in the deadly shooting, stating, “early Sunday morning, an El Paso Sector Border Patrol Agent was involved in an off-duty situation that included the discharge of a firearm.”
“I don’t feel safe,” Salinas said.
Officials haven’t identified the agent and haven’t said if they have made any arrests in the case or what led up to the aggravated assault.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is still investigating.
