LCPS unveils new renovations at Hermosa Heights Elementary
Las Cruces Public Schools announced the completion of a $3.5 million renovation project at Hermosa Heights Elementary School on Tuesday.
“We’re very proud,” said LCPS Superintendent Dr. Greg Ewing. “We’re proud of the school. We’re proud of the work of the workers here. We’re proud of the community for supporting the last bond referendum.”
The construction project lasted nearly 14 months, according to the district. It added more than 12,500 square feet of new construction and renovated 2,800 square feet to the sixty-year-old school.
“We have buildings that are older than I am and buildings that needed some refurbishing and some help,” Ewing said.
Additions include a multipurpose room, a basketball court, bleachers, a performance stage, a new kitchen and a cafeteria. Security doors were also added to the front of the school, the press release said.
“I’m happy that we have this new multipurpose room,” said Bryana Munger, a fourth grader. “We have a stage where we can perform.”
“We actually have places to eat,” said Adrian Gonzalez, another fourth grader. “I thought we didn’t have any. I really like the cafeteria.”
Later this week, Las Cruces residents will vote on the school district’s proposed $50 million bond, which would renovate multiple schools within the district, provide new additions and security features.
“So as we look to our next bond referendum, we want to continue replicating the model that we’ve done here,” Ewing said. “We want to continue assisting other schools with much needed projects.”
