New FBI Acting Deputy Director is NMSU grad
David Bowdich, the new acting Deputy Director of the FBI graduated New Mexico State University in 1991.
Bowdich earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He later served as a police officer and detective for the Albuquerque police department.
He has worked for the FBI for 22 years. Bowdich was appointed to the position following the sudden departure yesterday of Andrew McCabe.
McCabe had previously announced he would retire in Spring. He took terminal leave yesterday, the same day the House of Representatives voted to release to the public a four-page summary of an investigation by the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence into the FBI’s handling of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server for classified information.
There is no word yet from the FBI on how soon a decision will be made on a permanent replacement for McCabe, or if Bowdich is under consideration for the post.
Albuquerque Deputy Police Chief Robert Huntsman told the Albuquerque Journal that Bowdich was, “very ambitious, very smart and very physically fit.”
An FBI news release says that Bowdich joined the FBI’s San Diego field office after he was hired in 1995. There he served as a special agent, investigating violent crimes and gangs, as well as serving on a SWAT team, and as a sniper.
