‘Baby Brianna Bill’ stalls in New Mexico legislature
The New Mexico House bill that would have increased penalties for child abusers stalled in the legislature, according to Gov. Susana Martinez.
House Bill 100, commonly referred to as the ‘Baby Brianna Bill,’ proposed that intentional child abuse be a first-degree felony, with a possible sentence of life in prison.
Additionally, the proposed legislation aimed at changing the definition of a child from 12 to 18 years of age with regard to abuse cases.
The current New Mexico state legislative session ends Thursday, and will be the last for Martinez.
