Texas man pleads guilty to dealing drugs in Mississippi

A Texas man nicknamed “Big Head” has pleaded guilty to dealing illegal drugs along Mississippi’s coast.

The Sun Herald cites a U.S. Department of Justice statement that says 47-year-old Jose Luis Chavez entered his plea Thursday.

It says U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents learned Chavez was a major supplier of cocaine, marijuana, meth and heroin in southern Mississippi after a separate March arrest sparked an investigation.

The statement says Chavez conspired with at least three other people to traffic drugs from Texas to Mississippi.

He pleaded guilty to charges including conspiring to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine.

Chavez faces up to life in prison and a $10 million fine when sentenced in May.
