El Paso Zoo to break ground on new exhibit
Crews will break ground today on El Paso Zoo’s Chihuahuan Desert Exhibit.
This new exhibit will span 2.3 acres. It will serve as the home for Mexican gray wolves, mountain lions, jaguars and other large and small species, El Paso Zoo officials said in a news release.
ABC-7 reported in January that the cost of the project increased by $2 million, making the total $14.1 million.
City officials blamed El Paso’s construction boom and the market as a whole for the price increase.
Construction for the new exhibit is expected to be complete by 2019. The project is part of the voter-approved 2012 Quality of Life Bond.
City and zoo officials will be at the groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m.
