Water restored to northeast residents, pressure still low
Water was restored to customers in northeast El Paso early Friday morning, utility officials told ABC-7.
But the solution crews found in restoring water is leading customers to having low water pressure.
Around 10 p.m. Thursday, El Paso Water tweeted that a 16-inch water main broke near Dyer Street and Tiger Eye Drive.
Officials said water trucks were sent to the area for residents to fill up containers with emergency drinking water.
Originally, El Paso Water estimated repair time at 12 hours, but were able to restore service around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
The utility spokesman told ABC-7 that the crews had to route water from another direction, which is leading to low water pressure at many homes and even at Desertaire Elementary School.
EPW is asking those who are having problems to call (915) 594-5500 and to be patient as the sheer volume of calls is overloading the system.
The EPW spokesman also advised residents who have brown water flowing in their taps to continually run the water until it is clear. Then it will be safe to drink, he added.
