Three hospitalized after explosion southeast of Red Sands

Three people were taken to the hospital after an explosion near Gas Line Road, near Red Sands.

Officials close to the investigation say the incident occured while the three were taking part in recreational shooting. Investigators said one of the rounds struck a storage shed located on private property, which triggered an explosion and caused their vehicle to catch fire.

A spokeswoman with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said all injuries were non-life-threatening.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. southeast of Red Sands.

One person was airlifted to the hospital.

Personnel from the Sheriff’s Office , Texas Rescue Patrol, Vista Fire and Horizon Fire responded to the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
