Father charged with injuring 7-week-old daughter

El Paso Police say a 7-week-old girl suffered from severe bleeding and swelling from her brain while she was in the care of her father.

The father of the child, 27-year-old Steve Estrada, was arrested Saturday on charges of Injury to a Child/Serious Bodily Injury after police say the victim was found unresponsive while she was being taken care of by Estrada. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Detectives with EPPD’s Crimes Against Children went to the hospital to check on the child over the weekend. She remains at Sierra Providence Children’s Hospital where she continues to be treated.

Estrada was also the sole caregiver at the time of the arrest, according to police.

Estrada was booked at the El Paso County Jail on Sunday and is being held on a $250,000 bond, according to jail records.
