Las Cruces city council postpones decision on Apodaca Blueprint
Las Cruces city council members voted to postpone a decision on a plan to redevelop the former Las Cruces Country Club neighborhood.
The blueprint covers Apodaca park, the former Las Cruces Country Club golf course off North Main Street, a portion of Madrid Avenue, an old flood control dam off Triviz Road, and a portion of homes north and south of Madrid Avenue.
The decision came after a series of public meetings, surveys and online feedback.
But some residents say they didn’t have time to review the blueprint in its entirety and are concerned about the potential increase in traffic.
According to the ‘Apodaca Blueprint,’ a website created by the consultant hired by the city, the project will improve the condition of the property and quality of life within the Apodaca-area neighborhoods. The planning area is about 730 acres.
The project is an effort by the city. The website states as existing neighborhoods age, they experience increasing challenges relating to infrastructure condition, public services, character and aesthetics, and housing condition.
