Chihuahuas to celebrate “The Sandlot” theme night on June 2
The El Paso Chihuahuas will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the classic baseball movie The Sandlot on June 2.
The team will wear special jerseys inspired by the movie that depict a tug-of-war between Chihuahuas mascot Chico and characters from the movie.
The Chihuahuas will also auction off jerseys from that night with the net proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of El Paso.
In addition, one of the film’s stars will be in attendance. Tom Guiry, who played the main character, Scotty Smalls, is scheduled to throw out the first pitch. He will then meet with fans and sign autographs on the concourse during the game.
The Chihuahuas will play against Sacramento that night with gates opening at 6 p.m. and the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
The night will conclude with a fireworks display presented by KVIA and KISS F.M. that is choreographed to the soundtrack from the movie.
Fans are also encouraged to dress as their favorite character from the movie, with the best-dressed fan receiving an erector set.
Released in 1993, The Sandlot tells the story of a group of young baseball players who play together on a local dirt field in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California.
