Mexican foundry baffled over virgin statue it created, now apparently weeping in Hobbs
The Mexican foundry that created a bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, that some claim is weeping, tells ABC-7 it is baffled by the phenomenon.
The statue has attracted thousands to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Ricardo Flores Kastanis represents the foundry where the bronze statue of the likeness of the Virgin Mary was cast. He wants to know what the Catholic Church is investigating and why the statue seems to be weeping.
“I couldn’t tell you. I mean, I think that faith is an issue. Technically, of course, the metal doesn’t hold water,” said Flores Kastanis.
The likeness of the virgin was cast in Mexico City in bronze, where the foundry casts statues of athletes, leaders and other figures. Asked if any other statue the foundry has cast has ever wept, Flores Kastanis responded, “Never, never. This is completely, something that I’ve never seen before.”
Like millions of Latin-Americans, he too, as well as owners of the foundry, is Catholic and devotee of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
Faith is his only explanation.
“If you see my Catholic side, of course it’s beautiful. But if you see the technical side, there’s no explanation that I can find,” he said.
