Looking back at the life of local star athlete Cliff Tucker
Cliff Tucker was a star on both the basketball court and on the football field.
The Chapin High School graduate went on to have a stellar college career playing basketball for the University of Maryland.
Sources tell ABC-7 that on Monday, Tucker was killed in a car crash while driving back to El Paso from San Antonio.
Tucker was reportedly in San Antonio for a basketball tournament.
Tucker graduated from Chapin in 2007 and then went on to play basketball for 4 years for the Maryland Terrapins.
While at Maryland, Tucker became one of the program’s most prolific three-point shooters, ranking in the top-20 all-time in three-point field goal percentage.
Tucker led the Terrapins in three-pointers made (41) as a senior, and was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams in 2009 and 2010 under Hall of Fame Head Coach Gary Williams.
Tucker’s career highlight was a buzzer-beater he hit against Georgia Tech in 2010.
In 2011, Tucker returned home to El Paso where he then joined the UTEP football team.
Tucker was 29 years old.
