Alleged Barrio Azteca member caught with load of meth, Border Patrol says
Border Patrol agents arrested two people, including an alleged Barrio Azteca gang member, accused of trying to smuggle 20 pounds of methamphetamines through the Alamogordo, New Mexico immigration checkpoint Tuesday morning.
The drugs were allegedly found in the glove box and the spare tire compartment during a secondary search of the vehicle. It would have been worth more than $640,000 if sold on the street, officials said.
Both the female driver and male passenger are US citizens. According to Border Patrol, the male passenger is an admitted Barrio Azteca gang member and has multiple felony arrests for drug possession, assault on a public servant and assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators did not identify the suspects. Homeland Security Investigations is in charge of the continued investigation and prosecution of the case.
