Omaha, NE (KPTM) — The United Way of the Midlands (UWM) has announced a new partnership with Lyft to provide free rides to those in need.
Rides will be available to people with ‘limited access to safe, reliable transportation.’
The partnership will allow people to take rides to locations related to health, employment or access to food.
“We receive hundreds of calls each year related to transportation needs,” said Fratina McCraney, the 2-1-1 Helpline call room supervisor.
“By partnering with Lyft, we will be able to meet those needs more seamlessly, and that will have a big impact on the people in this community who need help getting to places like their doctor’s office.”
According to the UWM, this is one of just 25 United Ways across the country that offers the service.
Callers don’t need access to a smartphone or the Lyft app to request a ride.
Just call the United Way Helpline at 211 or text your zip code to 898211.
Lyft riders can also support Ride United by donating during rides.
Select United Way of the Midlands as the ‘Round Up & Donate’ partner in the Lyft app. Click “Menu” and select “Donate”.
