Migrant fathers reunite with children in El Paso Tuesday
Migrant families separated at the border were reunited in El Paso Tuesday, according to the Annunciation House.
Director Ruben Garcia said around 6:15 p.m. three fathers were reunited with their “tender age” children: Two fathers with two sons, one father with his daughter, all children are under 4.
“I heard some pretty strong feelings expressed right now,” said Garcia. “They’re the kind of feelings that make me want to step back about what the experience has been like for them.”
The three fathers were detained in Otero, but it is not known where the children were detained or the length of time they were separated from their parents, Garcia said.
The group of six migrants arrived at the Annunciation House around 8:30 p.m.
“When the van showed up, and the children started getting out of the van with their parents,” Garcia said. “I was watching that interaction. I was truly, truly pleased .”
Garcia said none of the families reunited had to wear ankle monitoring devices, nor did they have to undergo DNA testing.
