Repairs begin at Las Cruces Vietnam War Memorial

Repairs to the Vietnam War Memorial in Las Cruces’s Veterans Memorial Park start this week.

It will cost $20,000 to repair the damage to the memorial’s wall and Huey helicopter that is mounted above the park.

The damage was caused by vandalism that happened May 16.

Las Cruces police have arrested two teenagers in connection with the case: 16-year-old Bryce Richards and 18-year-old Marvin Reyes.

Both boys are charged with one count of criminal damage to property; a fourth-degree felony.

Crews will work on the repairs in the morning because of the high temperatures hitting the Borderland.

The repairs are expected to take all week to finish.
