Over 350 families got free backpacks at Operation HOPE back to school giveaway

Angel Gomez’s Operation H.O.P.E.’s League of Super Heroes distributed over 350 new backpacks and school supplies to families at the Sheriff’s Department Offices Saturday morning.

Deputy for the Sheriff’s officer Julian said, “It gives us an opportunity to help of the community.”

The backpacks were filled with school supplies. Donations poured in from may local businesses to make this event possible.

The co-founder of Operation Hope Angel Gomez said the need is so big, “It helps mom and dad. You notice backpacks are are lik $19, $15 a backpack. You add some supplies, it adds up.”

Kids were able to choose the color of backpack they wanted.

Dominic Delariva said he chose a space backpack because Neptune is his favorite planet.

The back to school giveaway was from 11 A.M. through 12 P.M. at 3850 Justice Drive.

Angel Gomez said there may be some backpacks left over. He said to call Operation Hope at 915- 590 -0490 on Monday to make sure.
