LCPD: Man suspected of shoplifting more than $900 worth of Sears merchandise arrested

Las Cruces Police have arrested a man suspected of shoplifting hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise, which included Dallas Cowboys jerseys, from a Sears department store.

Dwayne Grandison, 35, was arrested after police allegedly found over $900 worth of items inside his home and vehicle stolen from a Sears located at 700 S. Telshor Blvd on Monday afternoon, August 28th.

Police were dispatched to the Sears store following a report of shoplifting, where they learned a man was captured on surveillance cameras selecting several items of clothing and leaving the store without paying. According to an employee of the store, the stolen merchandise totaled $911.78 and consisted of Dallas Cowboys Jerseys, Levi’s jeans, and other clothing items.

Surveillance video also showed two women allegedly appearing to aid the the suspect by placing merchandise near an exit, which he is seen picking up on his way out of the store.

Additional footage taken from the store revealed revealed the license plate number of the vehicle the suspects left in, allowing officers to track down Grandison’s location.

According to police, a large amount of the stolen merchandise was allegedly visible from the backseat of the car. Consent given to investigators to search the vehicle and Grandison’s home revealed additional stolen merchandise.

Grandison was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. It was also discovered that he had nine Municipal Court warrants for failing to pay fine.

Police are continuing their investigation, as charges against the two alleged accomplices are possible.
