Stanton Cycle Track set to open Friday
El Paso’s first ever cycle track will open this Friday at 9 AM. The cycle track is essentially a protected two way bike lane that is outfitted with special bike signals at each intersection with existing traffic lights.
The track runs along North Stanton Street between Baltimore Ave and Rio Grande Ave. It is to be used exclusively for bicycles and each bike signal is equipped with sensors that will set it off. Anyone from walkers to bikers to drivers should exercise caution when using Stanton Street.
“The nature of Stanton has changed and I think it’s important to make sure that we are all sharing the road and that we’re all paying attention to what we’re doing and what everybody else around us is doing,” says bicycle program coordinator for the City of El Paso, Alfredo Austin.
For those that do not own a bicycle, a Sun Cycle bike rack is located at the Stanton and Cincinnati intersection. Bikes there are able to be rented for six dollars for the first 30 minutes and two dollars each additional half hour.
