High school athlete critically injured in crash progressing, according to Franklin Twitter
James McClain Green, the Franklin High School athlete critically injured in a two-car crash, is progressing in his treatment, according to the school’s Twitter page.
McClain Green had undergone multiple surgeries, but is reportedly no longer needing a breathing tube. The update was also posted on a GoFundMe page for McClain Green’s treatment.
He was a passenger in a Jeep Wrangler being driven by 17-year-old Pablo Payan on Nov. 17. A witness told police Payan was heading south on Edinburgh in Santa Teresa without using his vehicle’s headlights. Payan allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a Mitsubishi Galant, causing the Jeep to roll, police said.
Police arrested both Payan and the driver of the Mitsubishi, 28-year-old James Furman, for Driving While Intoxicated.
Another student injured in the crash was Nathalie Diaz. A friend of hers told ABC-7 Diaz suffered a broken spine and was sent to the hospital in critical condition. ABC-7 has not received an update on Diaz’s treatment.
A GoFundMe for treatment help remains open for Diaz.
Multiple witnesses told ABC-7 Furman remained at the scene and actually helped lift the jeep off McClain Green’s body.
He has pleaded not guilty to DWI. ABC-7 has not been told when Payan will appear in court.
