State Fire Marshal: Sunland Park house fire caused by Arson

The New Mexico State Fire Marshal concluded Saturday that the cause of Thursday’s Sunland Park house fire was Arson. The fire, which happened on December 13th, claimed the life of 8-year-old Marisa Muñoz, a 3rd grade student at Desert View Elementary.

Two other children inside the home were flown to a burn center in Lubbock, Texas. The family lost everything in the fire.

The exact cause of death of Munoz is still unknown and the State Fire Marshal’s Office will continue to investigate the fire.
