‘No one is exempt’: Mayor of Juarez announces he’s been diagnosed with coronavirus
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- Mayor Armando Cabada became the latest confirmed case of the coronavirus in Juarez on Wednesday evening.
The mayor made the announcement in a social media post (see it at the bottom of this article) where he indicated he tested positive for Covid-19 and added: "No one is exempt from contagion."
Cabada said he was asymptomatic, or in other words - not currently experiencing any symptoms of the virus, but was self-quarantining.
He urged residents of his city to follow safety measures, saying he believed the next 10 days would be a critical period for Juarez but also predicted: "We're gonna be fine."
With Cabada's disclosure, he becomes one of at least 433 Juarez residents to have confirmed virus infections, which account for over 60% of all the cases in Chihuahua state.
As of Wednesday, Juárez also accounted for 104 of Chihuahua state’s 125 virus deaths.
