Electrical substation problem caused outage for 2,900 in far east El Paso
EL PASO, Texas -- About 2,900 El Paso Electric customers were without power Thursday afternoon and evening for a few hours due to an outage in 90-degree weather.
The electrical outage was first reported around 4 p.m. in far East El Paso and utility officials said at the time that crews were working quickly to restore service.
Around 9 p.m. the problem was finally reflected as having been resolved, according to El Paso Electric's outage map. A utility spokesman on Friday estimated many had their power back on by about 7 p.m. and the map lagged in updating.
The company tweeted Thursday that the cause of that outage was under investigation and didn't post further updates.
The utility spokesman on Friday said it had been determined that the outage was triggered by a "feeder lockup at a local substation."
