Police identify woman dead in head-on car crash near Las Cruces that injured 4 others
UPDATE, Aug. 17: State police on Monday identified a woman killed in a weekend traffic crash outside Las Cruces.
Investigators said 27-year-old Haley Skufca, of Las Cruces was a passenger in a car that, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another car.
The driver of that car was injured and he was taken to Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
Three women in the car that was struck head-on were also injured and authorities said the trio were all El Pasoans. The 70-year-old driver and a 47-year-old passenger were flown by helicopter to University Medical Center for treatment, while a 49-year-old was taken by ambulance to Mountain View.
ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 15: LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- At least one person was killed in a head-on crash north of Las Cruces on Saturday evening.
New Mexico State Police said the crash involved two cars on State Highway 185 near mile marker 4, north of Las Cruces.
Three people were taken by ambulance to a local hospital and one person was flown from the scene to a hospital in El Paso.
State Police investigators used aerial drones to help reconstruct the crash and try to determine what happened.
Traffic in both directions along N.M. Highway 185 was shut down for the investigation, but has since reopened.
