Woman steals car, tells officers it couldn’t be stolen because the keys were inside

OMAHA, NE (OMAHA, NE) — Omaha Police say a woman is in jail after leading law enforcement on a chase in a stolen car.
Early Thursday morning, officers say they noticed a 2010 Jeep Liberty in the area of Eppley Airfield that had been reported stolen Wednesday evening.
Officers say they began to follow the Jeep onto Storz Expressway and used stop sticks and pepper spray balls to get the driver pulled over and out of the car.
Police say Christina Gillespie, 30 was arrested and taken to Douglas County Corrections.
Police say Gillespie told officers the car “couldn’t” be stolen because keys were in the vehicle.
The owner of the Jeep told officers their car was running and unlocked when she went inside to pick up a child and went back outside to find her car gone.
Gillespie is charged with felony flight to avoid arrest and felony theft by receiving, according to police.
Police say Gillespie is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for a glass drug pipe found on the passenger floorboard of the car.
