Speeding motorcyclist dies after crash with big-rig along I-10 in west El Paso

UPDATE, March 15: El Paso police on Monday said a speeding motorcyclist who died after crashing into the rear of a tractor-trailer rig was responsible the shutdown of I-10 west near Executive for hours on Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Police identified the victim as 25–year old Jesus Jomar Moreno of west El Paso and said he died shortly after the crash at a nearby hospital.

Investigators said he was the 11th traffic fatality of the year in El Paso, which represents a decline for 18 deaths a year ago at this same time.

ORIGINAL REPORT, March 13: EL PASO, Texas -- A crash along Interstate 10 westbound at Executive resulted in a closure of the highway for hours late Friday night and well into Saturday.

All traffic diverted off I-10 at exit 16. Police tweeted that the crash scene was finally cleared and all lanes reopened about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities have provided no further details about the crash.
