Police: Man stole woman’s 3-month-old puppy at knifepoint at Nebraska dog park

    LINCOLN, Nebraska (KETV) — A Nebraska man has been arrested after police say he stole a couple’s puppy at knifepoint.

On April 24, officers were called t0 Holmes Lake Dog Run in Lincoln.

The victim, an 18-year-old female, reported that she went to the dog park with her boyfriend and her 3-month-old puppy. As they were getting back into their vehicle, she was approached by a man, later identified as 25-year-old Deaundre Coleman, who was known to her, claiming she had his dog.

The victim told police Coleman grabbed her from the vehicle and assaulted her before grabbing the puppy and walking away. She said her boyfriend attempted to take the dog back, but Coleman pulled out a knife and swung it at him before leaving in a silver Infiniti.

Officers observed a knife wound in the boyfriend’s hand. Police reported the woman also had injuries consistent with her story.

Officers contacted Coleman at his residence and arrested him for robbery, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, second-degree assault and cruelly mistreat of an animal. Officers also located a large black knife inside the vehicle Coleman had been in.

Police eventually tracked the puppy down and returned it to its owner.

Officers determined that 21-year-old Shayli Turnbull had asked Coleman to take the dog from the victim. Turnbull was taken into custody and arrested for accessory to a class 2 felony.
