LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A Las Cruces woman was arrested on a felony charge after allegedly hitting her neighbor in the head with a large rock and seriously injuring her, authorities said Wednesday.

Jessica Lee Griewahn, 26, was being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Police said the victim, whose name was not released, suffered a traumatic brain injury during last week's attack that happened in the 1700 block of Calle Fielder.

The victim talked with authorities after being released from University Medical Center of El Paso just a couple days ago.

"The victim told investigators that she and Griewahn exchanged words and began physically fighting each other before witnesses separated them," said Las Cruces police spokesman Dan Trujillo. "Investigators believe Griewahn then retrieved a large rock, or a large piece of cinderblock, and threw it at the victim. The rock struck the victim’s forehead causing her to fall to the ground."

Police said they obtained an arrest warrant for Griewahn and took her into custody on Tuesday night.
