El Dorado hires Frank Martinez as next head football coach

EL PASO, Texas - It's the beginning of a new era at El Dorado High School.

Wednesday, the school made it official presenting Frank Martinez as the next head football coach for the Aztecs.

Martinez was also named the school's athletic director.

He was previously the defensive coordinator at Franklin High School since 2016.

He also served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Chapin High School before ending up at Franklin.

The 34-year-old will take over for former El Dorado coach David Telas who announced back in May that he would not be returning to the program.

Martinez says growing up in northeast El Paso, he can relate to the kids at El Dorado because of the diversity at the school.

He's thankful to have the opportunity and he's ready to hit the ground running.

"I'm a man of faith and I believe everything happens for a reason," Martinez said. "I had a great cast over at Franklin High School, coaches, our admin, everybody was great and they are really a big part in preparing me to come here and lead this community."

Martinez takes over an El Dorado program that's only won 3 games in the last three seasons.
