Explosives threat at El Paso’s federal building turns out to be hoax
EL PASO, Texas -- The area around downtown El Paso's federal building was briefly cordoned off Wednesday morning as a police bomb squad responded following an explosives threat that turned out to be a hoax, authorities indicated.
El Paso police said they cleared a portion of the 700 block of San Antonio Avenue as the bomb squad deployed to examine a suspicious package found in the building.
A police spokesman said "the package was left inside followed by the threat of an explosive device."
An examination of the package found it didn't contain any explosives, the spokesman said, and the federal building was reopening.
No further details were immediately available.
