Doctor warns Iraqi Kurds: Illegal path to EU can be deadly

BIELSK PODLASKI, Poland (AP) — A Kurdish doctor working at a Polish hospital has been treating Iraqi and Syrian migrants who have entered Poland from Belarus and gotten trapped in a dank forest. He has treated them for hypothermia, pneumonia, broken bones and severe dehydration. Hoping to stop what has grow into a dangerous migration route, he asked a Kurdish TV station to let him go on the news to warn people in his homeland not to attempt to sneak into the European Union through the Belarus-Poland border. Dr. Arsalan Azzaddin also appealed to the Iraqi government to stop the migration by creating more opportunities for its people. His appeal came as EU officials also mounted pressure on Iraq to halt the Belarus migration route.
