Woman tried to smuggle 1/2 pound of meth in her ‘vaginal cavity’ through El Paso border checkpoint
EL PASO, Texas -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it caught a woman trying to smuggle a half-pound of methamphetamine into the country from Mexico by hiding the drugs in her "vaginal cavity."
The unusual discovery was made by CBP agents on duty Thursday at the Paso Del Norte pedestrian border crossing in El Paso.
Officials said the 32-year-old attempted smuggler was a U.S. citizen who was selected for a secondary exam in which a drug sniffing dog's reaction prompted a body search.
"The search resulted in the discovery of a cylindrical object partially concealed in her vaginal cavity. Two additional bundles were also recovered later. The contents of the packages tested positive for methamphetamine," CBP said in a statement Friday.
The woman was turned over to Homeland Security officials who said she will face charges associated with the failed smuggling effort. The woman's identity was not revealed by authorities.
