El Paso hospitals to receive 9 more cases of virus treatment Remdesivir
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso hospitals will be getting more of an antiviral drug that has shown promise in the treatment of Covid-19.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that six El Paso hospitals will be getting nine additional cases of the antiviral drug remdesivir. Borderland hospitals previously received a dozen cases late last month.
The Texas Department of State Health Services will distribute 125 total cases of the liquid form of the drug across the state. That is enough to teat about 500 patients.
The state Health Services Department is receiving the drug from the federal government.
This is the fourth round of distribution across the state and will bring the total number of cases distributed to Texas hospitals to 609.
Remesdivir has shown promise in early trials in speeding up the recovery time among patients hospitalized with Covid-19.
