The Hospitals of Providence holding special events for Stroke Awareness Month

EL PASO, Texas - This Saturday is the beginning of Stroke Awareness Month. Every May, hospitals including The Hospitals of Providence raise awareness on the importance of recognizing the signs and symptoms of a stroke, as well as encouraging individuals to know their risk of having a stroke by visiting their doctor and getting screened. 80% of strokes can be prevented through education and care.

To kick off Stroke Awareness Month, The Hospitals of Providence is hosting a free stroke screening event. The event is Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1755 Curie Drive. This event is by appointment only and social distancing guidelines will be followed. To reserve your screening go to: http://www.thehospitalsofprovidence.com/eventswww.thehospitalsofprovidence.com/events or call 844-367-5656. Screening will include blood pressure, glucose, and body mass index. Fasting is encouraged for more accurate results.

On Sunday beginning at 8 a.m., The Hospitals of Providence is hosting the Strides Against Stroke virtual walk. You are encouraged to pick your favorite red shirt to wear and then find your favorite neighborhood trail, pathway or park to walk in. Snap a photo of yourself and post on social media using the hashtag #StridesAgainstStroke. You can follow along on: http://facebook.com/events/TheHospitalsofProvidence.
