What to do if you lose your Covid-19 vaccine card
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- More young children are getting vaccinated and older adults are getting booster shots here in El Paso. For parents, that means you have even more vaccination cards that you need to take care of.
So here's what to do in case you lose it.
The first thing to do is contact the health care provider that you received the vaccine from. Pharmacies and doctors offices can pull up those records quickly.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, all health care providers have access to vaccination records through the state registry called ImmTrac2.
If you received a vaccine at a state vaccine hub your best bet is to contact DSHS at 1-800-252-9152 or click here.
You'll then need to fill out an Authorization to Release ImmTrac2 History form and mail it in order to get a copy of your immunization records.
Parents with small children have to opt in for the ImmTrac2 registry, something Dr. Rana Kronfol, an El Paso pediatrician, says parents should do.
"We actually really encouraged the immunization registry," Kronfol said "It allows you to always have access to it schools... (and) school nurses have access to it."
But it's not just your Covid-19 vaccine card that parents should keep their eye on.
Kronfol said all vaccines are important and making sure they're update to date is critical.
"i just really encourage a yearly exam with your pediatrician. It allows the pediatrician an opportunity not only to review vaccines, but to make sure that the child is healthy, do more preventive medicine, talk about their height, their weight, their blood pressure," she said.
