Candidates, Voters Ready For Election Runoff Day

EL PASO, TX. – El Pasoans get their second chance to elect the first four-year term Mayor and other city reps on Saturday. According to the County Elections Department, the turnout has been”pretty good”, considering the number of voters is generally lower in a run-off election.

Helen Jamison, the County Elections Supervisor tells ABC-7 that, “the runout isn’t as bad asI thought it was going to be…we’ve had a constant number of phone calls all day and I think we’ll have close to what we had last month.”

The early voting numbers seem promising, with more than 18,500 votes cast before Saturday. That number is an increase of just over 5000 votes from two years ago. The County Elections office is hoping to match numbers from the regular election this may, that was about 40,000 voters.
