ASARCO Air Permit Hearing Goes On Smelter Tour

EL PASO, TX. – The Contested Case Hearing for the renewal of ASARCO’s air permit went ont the road late Thursday afternoon.

Two State Judges, one representative from each side, a former plant manager, plus other members of the legal teams made the trek to the dormant smelter.

Just after4:30Thursday afternoon, the group piled into a city van and headed west. An ABC-7 crew followed the group, all the way until they entered the smelter.

Officials told ABC-7 that members of the media were not allowed on the tour of the facility.

As part of the tour, the group only drove around the smelter to get a close look at the plant. According to officials, they never leaved the van, or go inside any of the buildings.
