Police: Driving In Heavy Rain ‘Not Worth The Risk’

EL PASO — The El Paso Police Department is reminding the public about the dangers associated with driving in inclement weather, such as what was experienced Friday during the heavy rainstorms.

Authorities are telling car owners to make sure their vehicles are in proper working condition and that the tires and wipers are in good shape.

Drivers should afford themselves enough time to arrive to a desired location, taking into account the slower moving traffic that occurs when streets are wet and slippery.

Drivers should give themselves twice the amount of space between their car and the vehicle in front, rather than the distance kept on any other day.

People should avoid any large bodies of standing water, asit is often difficult to tell how deep the water is.

It is also important to consider not traveling when conditions are poor. It is advisable to stay indoors until conditions improve, police said.
