Evacuees Arrive In El Paso Via Military Transport

EL PASO, TX. – Nearly 100 evacuees arrived midday Friday at Biggs Army Airfield onboardan Army C-17 Transport.

According to emergency officials, nearly all were evacuees with medical needs. Officials tell ABC-7 that 21 wereable to walk on their own, 25 were family members and 45 were on stretchers.

According to authorities, none of the evacuees on the plane were going to area rec centers, they were going to be treated at local hospitals. Biggs Field officials told ABC-7 that many different emergency crews were on the runway waiting for the aircraft.

Medical teams from the El Paso Fire Department, the Red Cross and Life Ambulance all worked to transport the evacuees to area hospitals. Life ambulance officialstell ABC-7 thatthe company had already transported 2 critical patients.

Besides Friday’s 91 evacuees, 190 people came in late Thursday night. Officials tell ABC-7 that two more planes carrying evacuees were expected today, but no details were released as to their arrival time or how many people they will bring.
