Glory Road Movie, Book Successful 1-2 Punch
EL PASO, TX. – While Glory Road was a hit at the box office this weekend, with $16.5 million earned over three days, attention turns to the book version of the story.
With the success of the movie, many are asking, “does Don Haskins’s autobiography have the same potential as the movie?” The answer may be in Coach Haskins’ own hand.
As second printing of the book has already been ordered, bringing the total in print to more than 50,000, “The Bear” continues to paw countless copies. For the second straight day and at least the fifth time in a month, Don Haskins was signing copies of his autobiography “Glory Road.”
Coach Haskins tells ABC-7, “I’ve signed enough for it to make the best-seller list … I know that … I don’t know how many it takes, but I think I’ve signed 12 to 15,000.” The co-author for “Glory Road” Dan Wetzel, says the push is on to get it on the New York Times best-seller list.
Mr. Wetzel tells ABC-7, “We hope it’s strong over the next couple of weeks because there’s such a big push out of El Paso and now it’s selling big nationally and that’s really the exciting part.”
If “Glory Road” ends up on the New York Times Best Seller list, it’ll end up in a prime location with other best sellers right at the front of bookstores across the country. If not readers may have to search for the book near the back of the store to find it.
Locally, “Glory Road” is already on one best-seller list, with El Pasoans. Those who have already read the story, recommend it to others. Hyperion officials in New York, who published the book, tell ABC-7 the book is doing so well, a third printing of “Glory Road” is inevitable.
