Commissioners Approve Concordia Cemetery Facelift Project
EL PASO, TX. – County Commissioners give Concordia Cemetery a new lease on life, approving a major facelift project.
Monday Commissioner’s Court agreed to give the Concordia Heritage Association $45,000 dollars to restore and preserve the cemetery.
The association’s board president says the renovation will start as soon as Wednesday morning. One tourist tells ABC-7, he thinks renovations will attract more attention.
TouristAlan Sirkinsays”I think it will increase tourism tremendously…when people come in here and see it is very well kept up…[I think] they are going to want to come in here and spend much more time than they would otherwise.”
The money will pay for the installation of curbs on the roads inside the cemetery, as well as a new, wider gate at the entrance facing I-10.Additionally workers will install a wrought iron fence instead of the rock wall,so the cemeterywill bemore visible from the freeway.
