Computer Snafu Causes Lost Data At ENMU

PORTALES, N.M. (AP) – A computer malfunction has caused the loss of academic data for hundreds of Eastern New Mexico University students.

Technical experts say the temperature increased in a room at the Roswell campus that houses a server, causing the server to crash late last month. A backup system also failed. The system was back up by Friday.

The university’s director of media relations, Wendel Sloan, says most of the data has not been recovered. About 700 students were enrolled via the server, which is used to conduct online courses, class discussions, and store grades and turn in assignments.

Sloan says most of the professors have enough data to reconstruct students’ grades.
